I'm looking for a fic that, while back on Earth, John keeps forgetting that he has to open doors manually, and so keeps running into them. After a bunch of trips to the ER, onr of the doctors thinks Rodney is abusing him.

Thanks!

John Simm mentions LoM in a Dr Who interview
[info]saintvic wrote in [info]lifein1973
I have been reading a lot of articles and info about the Doctor Who episodes to be screened at Christmas and as I did I came across this article from the Daily Mail:

Master of the Loonie-verse: Craziest Dr Who villain ever says his final showdown with David Tennant will scare us all witless.

In it he mentions LoM, saying that:

No less amazing for Simm was being whisked away for Life On Mars through a time warp to Seventies Manchester, a place close to where he was born and raised.

But perhaps the best thing about Life On Mars for Simm was the chemistry he shared with Philip Glenister, who played the fabulously un-PC DCI Gene Hunt opposite Simm's 21st-century cop.

'We more or less lived together for the two years of Life On Mars; it was like we were married! We never got tired of each other, we just moaned together like grumpy old men. I adore him. I'm very proud to have been part of a cop double act that had that chemistry because it's such a rare thing.

'It really worked, all that jumping over bonnets, chasing people in cars. It was such a laugh.'

Although Simm, at first, threw the script of Life On Mars in the bin, deeming it too weird, he came to realise it was 'a hell of a great part'. So leaving wasn't easy.

'I thought: "If they stop it now, it will be a classic. Like The Prisoner." My story had come to a natural end. Plus, Gene Hunt was such a huge character. There are only so many times you can roll your eyes and tell him off.'

If there is any remorse, it's to do with the American remake starring Harvey Keitel as Gene Hunt and Jason O'Mara as Sam Tyler.

'I'm not even curious,' says Simm wryly. 'I am Sam Tyler and that's it!' Simm laughs, but insists the same applies to the U.S. remake of the TV political thriller State Of Play, in which he starred on TV with David Morrissey.

Piggy Sniffles A.K.A. Swine Flu
[info]pushkin666
Yep I'm told by the doctor this morning that I have this and apparently have had this for the last 3/4 weeks. Joy. See I thought at first it was a bad cold (because when I get colds they go to my chest), and then I thought, okay I have flu, but not ... The Flu because according to the Government you have to be dying to have that.

Well I wasn't well but you know. *shrugs* I think I've been keeping my local chemist in business the last few weeks, as well as the distillers of whisky, but it wouldn't go away. No matter what I did. I even went on the NHS website last night and they said I didn't have it. But I'd been ill over the weekend so finally after some friendly persuasion, yep arm twisting, I went to the doctor this morning who diagnosed it.

Not that he thinks giving me Tamiflu 3 weeks into it may actually do anything as it's supposed to be taken the first week but at least with this evidence I get a week paid leave off work. I suspect just doing nothing for a week, drinking fluids and sleeping will help more than anything else :D

I may well be whiney this week, in fact if you can't whine when you have piggy sniffles when can you whine :D?

I have the internet, a demanding cat, a couple of new books, and the last two Supernatural. So I'm sorted. Also if this damned headache goes away at any point I may attempt writing.

In which I fail at being a grown up
[info]casspeach
So, I had this great plan for the week, right? I was going to finish my Trekmas story (on which I have an extension) and get it sent off to my beta tonight, and then tomorrow, buy the Star Trek Bluray, and spend all of Wednesday watching it. Tomorrow is reserved for the dentist and the health visitor (for the baby's 7 month development check - a little under 3 weeks shy of his first birthday - yay NHS!)

So, I took the dog for a walk, didn't really want to take my wallet with me, but needed to pick up food for tonight, so I put a couple of tenners in my pocket. Went to the supermarket post-walk.

Where they had Star Trek already on the shelves. Cost of bluray disc £19.71. Amount of dinner that can be bought with my 29p change? not much.

So, I have chosen Star Trek over food.

I feel like a student all over again :-D

I really hope there's something we can eat in the freezer.

Rodney Planning Secretly
[info]nuetronorange wrote in [info]sgastoryfinders
"This one is quite vague...if I recall correctly, it seems to be about people who were exiled/recalled from Atlantis to Earth and are getting ready to try and return. John has been writing Rodney letters (John got a dog, who I think he calls Sue), but isn't sure whether or not Rodney will be joining them as he hasn't answered any of John's letters. Elizabeth is in the story as well."

Someone asked about this in another community and its peaked my interest as I vaguely remember this story. I think John keeps writing Rodney letters, it might even be formatted to look like emails but Rodney ignores them because he's afraid of accidentally giving away his plans to get them back to Atlantis.

Thanks.

Seeking beta
[info]envinyatar15 wrote in [info]merlin_betas
Title: as yet untitled
Genres: a bit on the angsty side, a bit on the fluffy side; modern AU
Pairing, or characters: Arthur/Merlin, Lancelot/Merlin
Rating: R, but may go up to NC-17
Type of beta you'd like: definitely SPAG (I'm not a native) and, since this is my first fic in Merlin fandom, characterisation; plus anything else you want to tell me
Length, or word count: ~2,800 words for first draft, will likely go up a few hundred words
Short Summary: Based on prompt: Arthur/Merlin, Lancelot/Merlin. Merlin is tired of his friends (Arthur, Gwen and Morgana) ditching him and doing stuff without including him all the time. He cuts himself off from them. Arthur comes around a couple of months later after realizing they haven't seen Merlin in a while and is shocked to find he's got a boyfriend named Lance ... something or other. Arthur is incredibly jealous and begins working on how to break them up and have Merlin all to himself again.

Any help will be much appreciated! :)

Quotations are your friend
[info]amothea
I just ran across a story that used apostrophes in the place of quotations. I'm still rather sure that in 99% of the cases quotations are required at the beginning of dialogue and at the end of the dialogue. It's not even something that's easy to fix because you can't just replace all the quotations with apostrophes without messing up the apostrophes in the story. grrrr

I'm normally not a grammar nazi but in this case I'll make an exception. It's ugly formatting and not proper writing!

EDIT: it appears that this type of formatting is common in the UK. I didn't know that, but I do still prefer regular quotes so you don't get sentences that look like this.

(random sentence that I modified)

'They do.' She slipped into the galley, moving soundless on little bare feet. 'I'm hungry.'

Teyla impersonator, only Rodney suspects
[info]crooked_halo8 wrote in [info]sgastoryfinders
A flash of a story just popped into my head. Gen or McShep, because that's 99.9% of what I read.

Something or someone has taken over Teyla, and Rodney is the only one that notices. I remember that one of the reasons he knows or suspects it's not the real Teyla is because she starts using contractions--can't, don't, won't, etc.--in her sentences.

Just got started posting fic to An Archive of Our Own. First up, Steam! I'll probably slooooooooowly post my fic over there, a bit at a time.

It'll still get posted here first. But, hey! OTW is pretty damned spiffy!

New Rule
[info]lavvyan wrote in [info]sgagenrefinders
This is a community, not your own personal journal. It doesn't matter why you are looking for stories in a particular genre, just that you are and what it is. The rambling explanations beforehand on why you think John Sheppard is being emotionally repressed or how you've always disliked Jennifer Keller and want to see her get what's coming to her are pointless, annoying, and will not achieve anything but lead, once again, to wank. If you want to rant, please do so in your own journals.

From this point on, when you post a search, please post the search only. No editorialising.

Thank you.
